Orange County Medical Society

Orange County Medical Society Alliance Member Profile

The members of the Orange County Medical Society Alliance are a hard working and dedicated group of people. Even though 80% of Physician's spouses work outside their homes, many own businesses and are professionals in their own right, they enjoy taking time out of their busy schedules to join in the many worthwhile community service projects offered by the Alliance.

The Orange County Medical Society Alliance is a branch of the American Medical Association Alliance and the Florida Medical Society Alliance which are often referred to as the volunteer arms of the American Medical Association and the Florida Medical Association. Besides the many community service projects the Alliance is also very involved in legislative issues that effect our spouses patients or their practices. Members feel being involved in the Alliance is on way to show support to our Physician spouses.

Our Alliance families are a spectrum of ages, from young families starting out to spouses of retired Physicians. Living with a Physician can be demanding. It can be especially hard on the spouse that has a demanding career of their own. The Alliance can offer great support for the men and women married to Physicians, because no one knows what it is like to be married to a Physician except another Physician's spouse.

Our Alliance is always eager to welcome new members. If you have any questions or would like more information please call Elaine Hale at 407-859-5675 or E-mail her at brase@bellsouth.net.

OCMSA Event

Grand Opening of the BodyZone 3-D Exhibit

The OCMSA event on Friday, April 29 at the Orlando Science Center was a huge success! A large group of physicians and their wives were in attendance to view the Grand Opening of the BodyZone 3-D exhibit and enjoy a subsequent dinner at Antonio's in Maitland.

The OCMSA and the Dr. Franklin B. McKechnie family provided the initial funding for the exhibit, which is meant to inspire and educate the general public about medicine, biology and the human body.

The "Life of a Blood Cell" video was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Special guests at the event included Bruce and Scott McKechnie, the sons of Dr. Franklin and Margaret Mckechnie. Also in attendance with their spouses were: Dr. Brian Tonner, President and CEO of OSC; Dr. Harold Greenberg, OCMS President; Dr. George Ellis, OCMS President Elect; Dr. Darrell Shea, OCMS Past President; Mrs. Elaine Hale, OCMSA President; and four OCMSA Past Presidents: Carol Latham, Nancy Wagers, Diane Goll, and Ann Shea.

Diane Goll wishes to thank the OCMSA and the McKechnie family for this amazing project, which will help to promote health education throughout Central Florida in many years to come.
